An hour and a half after seeing the film, my vision of cinema had changed. It is one of the greatest films of American genre cinema (...) We have a young filmmaker asserting his style, a prodigious film from the point of view of direction. Cinema runs through Carpenter’s veins. You can sense he has immediately reached maturity. This film represents the essence of what would shape Carpenter’s cinema for the next 50 years. (Jean Baptiste Thoret; Carpenter Masterclass – Cinéma Spoutnik)
