Claudio Giovannesi was born in Rome in 1978. He graduated from the Rome Centre for Experimental Film in 2005 and went on to work for Rai Radio and was also a film critic. After a number of shorts, including L'Uomo Uccello e L'Uomo del Sottosuolo (2005) and Welcome Bucarest (2007), he made his first fiction feature, La Casa sulle nuvole (2009), followed by a documentary, Fratelli d'Italia (2010). Ali a les yeux bleus is his second fiction feature.

"Ali a les yeux bleus talks about adolescence experienced in a multicultural society, as it is in Italy today. [...] Almost everything is told form Nader's point of view: his vision, his body, his actions determine each and every camera position and movement, forcing the image to follow him constantly and dynamically, in the underground, on foot, on his scooter, on the road and coming and going from the outskirts to the city centre. Teenagers never stop, they are constantly in motion; we live the action of the film hanging on their every vital, joyous, noisy movement." Claudio Giovannesi
