Morgan Simon was born in the outskirts of Paris and studied biology and communication before joining the scriptwriting department of La femis. Youth and marginality are at the heart of his films, such as the shorts American Football, which won an award at Premiers Plans in 2013 or Essaie de mourir jeune nominated for the César in 2016. Compte tes blessures (A Taste of Ink) is his first feature. The script was developed at the 2014 Ateliers d'Angers and read at Premiers Plans in 2015.

“I wanted to talk about single-parent families, unsaid secrets, incommunicability, love. The main character, Vincent (Kévin Azaïs), lives a paradox that we have probably all felt at some time in our own way. As a singer, he can cry on stage with charisma in front of an audience, but at home, facing his father, he suffers and remains silent. Finally, there was the question of cinema: is a post-hardcore concert more intense than a family scene around the table? Maternal mourning touches me and this is where the idea for the curious love triangle came from between the son, the father and the father's new girlfriend.” Morgan Simon
