Marie Kreutzer was born in 1977 in Graz. She studied Romance languages and German from 1995 to 1997 in Graz and Vienna. From 1997, she studied screenwriting and drama at the Vienna Film Academy. While there she made several short films: Ice cream man in 1997, DieTrauer und die Grösse and Vamonos in 1998, Thanksgiving in 1999, and Cappy leit which received the prize for Best Children's Short Film at the Oberhausen Festival in 2001.
