After studying literature, Hélène Zimmer wrote and directed her first feature, À 14 ans. In 2013 she co-wrote with Benoît Jacquot the adaptation of Octave Mirbeau's novel Le Journal d'une Femme de Chambre.
"From the outset I knew the challenges behind the film. I knew that it had to happen over a school year, with the rhythm of the seasons. What attracted me most of all was this temporality, the opposition and tension that exists at this age, between a sort of urgency, frequent changes of mind and lethargy. The ability of being totally shattered and on the verge of suicide one minute, and totally excited the next" (Hélène Zimmer).
