Journal de France
Raymond Depardon, Claudine Nougaret
2012 - France - 1h40
It is a diary, a journey through time. He photographs France, she finds bits of unseen footage that he's been keeping preciously: his beginnings with a camera, his reports from around the world, fragments of their memories, of our history.
A jointly-made film, Journal de France follows Raymond Depardon at work as he travels the roads of France, from 2004 to 2010, aboard a camper van, to take pictures of different places, individuals or situations that appear before him. The result was published in a beautiful book entitled La France de Raymond Depardon. At the same time, Claudine Nougaret looks back at Depardon's life. “Scraps of film, unseen rushes, archive footage, this Journal de France crosses borders and goes back in time to form an amazing collage. (...) The artist's portrait intersects with the multiple, ever-changing and exciting portrait of contemporary society. That is the strength of this kaleidoscopic film.” (Cécile Mury; Télérama)
