Buñuel's only film where he did not work on the screenplay, El Gran Calavera (The Great Mdcap) is Buñuel's second Mexican film. "I enjoyed this because I could practice technically. I enjoyed blocking out, camera work and editing. Some people say that the technical aspects don't interest me, but I remember at the time that they concerned me a lot, and that I wanted them to serve the narrative. I always wanted to spectator to forget the presence of the camera" (Luis Buñuel). The film is also the beginning of a long collaboration between Buñuel and editor Carlos Savage. Savage was one of the most famous editors, with almost 500 credits between the 1930s and the 200s. He won many important awards for his work on Los Olvidados (The Forgotten) and Robinson Crusoe.
