Behind a vision of an apparently simplistic woman, hide characters filled with ambiguity. The sensuality which radiates from the character of Paloma provides Buñuel with an opportunity to focus on the evocative power of images. "Erotically, pornography is negative as it exhausts everything, leaving no place for the imagination, has no mystery. However, seeing eroticism as a possibility, suggesting it, no more, is much better". Working with contrasts, El Bruto (The Brute) reminds us that purity and love can survive in a world which is nevertheless sullied by hatred and excess. "A poem by Breton says that love is a secret ceremony celebrated in the dark, at the end of a tunnel" (Luis Buñuel). It is difficult not to find an echo of this in El Bruto.
