TRIBUTES AND RETROSPECTIVES
From Hollywood's musical comedies to contemporary dance videos, krumping to ballroom dancing, Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's The Red Shoes to Kung-fu films, dance in its different forms flows through the history of cinema and its changes. Eluding narration to make way for sequences of great formal beauty, dance also bears witness to the relationship of the human body to space, memory and the collective. The retrospective thus presents the meeting of the youngest with the oldest forms of art, which Paul Valéry defined as “general poetry about the movement of the living”. |
